Getting to know Adrián: Ping Pong at Cerveza SanFrutos

At Cerveza SanFrutos, we are always looking for ways to bring you a little closer to what's brewing (and fermenting) behind our doors. This time, we've turned on the cameras in the brewery to put Adrián through a quickfire round of questions. A straight-to-the-point "Ping Pong" format to discover his most personal tastes, his role models, and his vision of the current craft beer scene.

If you haven't seen the video on our social media yet, here we break down all the details of this chat.

The house picks: From the Core Range to the all-time favourite

When we ask him about his favourite SanFrutos from our Core Range, Adrián doesn't hesitate for a second: the Lager. A flawless German Pils that never fails. However, when asked to choose his all-time favourite, the crown goes to El Sol, one of those recipes that has left its mark on our New Releases.

Nostalgia and brewing inspirations

We all have a beer that opened our eyes or that we remember with special affection. For Adrián, that memory takes him back about 10 or 11 years to Naparbier's Panopticon, a brew that surprised him greatly at the time.

When it comes to talking about the breweries that lead the way and serve as inspiration, Adrián is very clear about his preferences:

  • National inspirations: He highlights the consistent, top-quality work of Caleya and Dougall's.
  • International inspiration: His admiration crosses borders to reach the London-based The Kernel.

In defence of Spanish craft beer

One of the most vindicating moments of this ping-pong comes when talking about the global scene. When asked about the best country to try beers, Adrián is clear and makes a strong defence of local produce. He states emphatically that Spain currently has a very high brewing standard. He reminds us of the importance of valuing our own, pointing out the common tendency to praise what comes from abroad whilst disparaging the excellent beers brewed here.

And if you ask him to choose a favourite beer style to enjoy that standard, he is a purist: he goes without a doubt for classic IPAs.

Beyond hops: Music, books, and festivals

But not everything in life is malt and yeast. We also wanted to scratch the surface of his cultural and leisure tastes outside the brewery routine:

  • A song on his playlist: La Bilirrubina by Juan Luis Guerra. A classic that, according to him, "never fails".
  • A bedside book: The Catcher in the Rye and, in general, Castilian poetry.
  • An unforgettable festival: Tolivia (Asturias), a beer event where he confesses to having enjoyed himself immensely.
